Time to Make Self-Care a Priority: 3 Steps How

We succeed when we are feeling and performing at our best.

There’s a common belief to do for others first and to do for yourself last. As we enter the holiday season, all the extra activities, planning, and other related responsibilities can make this belief and our attempts to take care of everything stretch us beyond our limits. In addition, we tend to be overachievers in our careers, and just stoically push through when our mind and body are telling us they need attention. No wonder we are feeling stressed out!

While this seemingly “selfless” belief certainly encourages you to be positive and helpful to those around you, you also deserve self-care. In fact, you need it. Taking care of yourself needs to become a priority. This is especially true if you want to take back control of your health and weight, restore your spark and business vitality, and feel good in your body again too! I know that when my health crashed 15 years ago and I couldn’t even get out of bed, I had to finally make my self-care a priority before I could even begin to recover.

It’s time to take care of your needs, and of course, help others when you can after your needs have been met.

We succeed when we are feeling our best. Moreover, we thrive when we are happy, stress-free, and living the life we love. Without self-care, we are neglecting the needs our bodies require to be successful and happy individuals productive to ourselves and the world around us.

Read on for 3 steps you can take to incorporate more me-time into your day to start feeling and performing at your best!

  1. Sleep is a priority that is oftentimes overlooked when comparing it to the tasks of day-to-day life. It’s time that sleep is prioritized, and you enjoy 7-9 hours of undisturbed sleep every night! While we sleep, our body repairs blood vessels and organs damaged or stressed throughout the day. Our brains use this time to sort through and store information, and our bodies balance themselves out. Make the first step to self-care and head to bed an hour or two earlier. Your body will thank you!
  2. Eat clean! Our bodies rely on fuel to function. Eating organic, whole, and plentiful foods rich in vitamins will keep your organs running smoothly and make you feel healthier overall. Food is fuel, and not all food is equal. Choosing organic produce ensures you eliminate the introduction of pesticides and chemicals into your body that certainly doesn’t belong there. Unnatural hormones in our foods will create an imbalance in our own bodily systems and functions. Pesticides in our foods have been linked to cancer and other diseases including obesity.
  3. Take at least 1 hour a day to yourself. This doesn’t mean sitting on the couch while finishing an essay assignment or grading papers for your high school students. This means an hour of quiet time when you enjoy something that benefits you. This can be meditation, yoga, a gym session, a walk along the beach, an art class, or another hobby! Make sure “you-time” is a priority. When you are drowning in the demands of daily life and push your own needs to the side, self-care has become the last priority. To live a healthy life, self-care must be a priority! Just one hour a day can reflect big changes in your life!

Stress reduction is one of the five pillars of creating a healthy lifestyle I help my clients look and feel their best. The other four are diet, rest, exercise, and supplementation when needed. Ensuring you are making yourself a priority is essential to your overall health and well-being! Follow these tips to get yourself started in the right direction to a happier and healthier life. Self-care isn’t selfish ー it’s one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself healthier, happier, and more productive than you’ve ever been!
